youth programs

We welcome families at St. Luke's and offer year-round nursery care, church school during the school year, and a Family Service once a month.

WHAT'S NEW?

"Rite 13" (Middle School Youth Group)

Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Graders had a great year in "Rite 13," which focuses on youth ages 11 to 13 and functions as the Junior High Youth Group. Tthis class is a young adult formation program that guides the building of friendships in the church and celebrates God's evolving gift of manhood and womanhood. Highlights included a Rite 13 liturgy in May and an overnight Appalachian Mountain Club hike in August.  Contact the Rev. Carolyn Coleman for more information.

"J2A" (High School Youth Group)

Journey to Adulthood is our High School youth group and Sunday School class. We meet weekly on Sundays as well as for special events. Watch this year for planning for a Pilgrimage and an Urban Experience Trip!

Our highschoolers are active as vergers, acolytes, leaders of children’s church, and in numerous other ways in the life of the cathedral. Their compassion for ministry is well illustrated in Kaitlin Cough, who following graduation from High School took time off in order to go to Africa to serve in an orphanage. Contact the Rev. Carolyn Coleman for more information.

Diocesan Youth Events

Many Diocesan youth activities take place  for both middle and highschoolers over the year. Highlights were the Diocesan Youth Event held at the cathedral for high school youth from around the State of Maine and Vocare, a retreat for young adults from around New England, also held here. Many of our youth attended and one of our youth served as a counselor at Camp Bishopswood. We are thrilled that Cathedral youth and young adults have taken leadership and actively participated in these and other diocesan event.
